Privacy Policy
"We protect your data better than we protect our wrestlers"
Last Updated: January 1, 2025 (GDPR made us do it)
🔒 YOUR PRIVACY MATTERS 🔒
The Lower Reedy Alligator Wrestling League (LRAWL) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website, attend our events, or interact with our services. Unlike alligator wrestling, we take data security very seriously. Please read this policy carefully.
Table of Contents

Why So Much Information?
We're dealing with dangerous animals and even more dangerous human behavior. We need emergency contacts, medical info, and attendance records not because we're nosy, but because our insurance company insists on it. Your safety (and our legal protection) requires comprehensive records.
2 How We Use Your Information
We use your information for legitimate business purposes. Here's what we do with your data:
| Purpose | How We Use Your Data |
|---|---|
| Service Delivery | Process registrations, ticket sales, and event participation |
| Safety & Emergency | Contact emergency contacts, provide medical information to first responders |
| Communication | Send event updates, safety briefings, schedule changes, and "are you sure?" emails |
| Payment Processing | Process transactions, issue refunds (when applicable, which is rare) |
| Marketing | Send promotional emails, newsletters, and event announcements (opt-out available) |
| Analytics | Understand user behavior, improve services, figure out why people keep coming back |
| Legal Compliance | Comply with laws, respond to legal requests, maintain liability records |
| Security | Prevent fraud, protect our systems, identify suspicious activity |
We Don't:
❌ Sell your personal information to third parties
❌ Share your medical data without authorization
❌ Use your info for purposes unrelated to LRAWL
❌ Send spam (we define this as more than 2 emails per week)
❌ Judge you for your life choices (okay, maybe a little)
3 Information Sharing & Disclosure
We share your information only when necessary and with appropriate safeguards:
When We Share Your Information
- Service Providers: Payment processors, email services, hosting providers (all bound by confidentiality agreements)
- Emergency Services: Medical personnel, hospitals, EMS when there's an incident
- Insurance Companies: Our liability insurers (they need to know what they're covering)
- Legal Authorities: When required by law, court order, or to protect rights and safety
- Business Transfers: In the unlikely event LRAWL is sold (who would buy this?)
- Event Partners: Venues, co-sponsors, contractors working on events (limited to necessary information)
- With Your Consent: Anyone else you specifically authorize
Public Information
Some information may be publicly displayed:
- Wrestler profiles and statistics (if you compete)
- Event photos and videos (you're at a public event)
- Winner announcements and rankings
- Testimonials and reviews (if you provide them)
⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️
If you wrestle an alligator at our events, your participation may be photographed, filmed, and shared publicly. This is not a privacy violation—it's the nature of a public sporting event. If you don't want to appear in media, don't participate in or attend events. Seriously, we can't blur out every face in every video.
4 Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Like every website since 1995, we use cookies. Here's what you need to know:
Types of Cookies We Use
- Essential Cookies: Required for the website to function (login, shopping cart, etc.)
- Performance Cookies: Help us understand how visitors use our site
- Functionality Cookies: Remember your preferences and settings
- Marketing Cookies: Track your visits across websites for advertising purposes
Other Tracking Technologies
- Web Beacons: Small graphics that help us track email opens and site usage
- Local Storage: Stores data on your device for faster loading
- Analytics Tools: Google Analytics and similar services (anonymized where possible)
Managing Cookies: You can control cookies through your browser settings. However, disabling cookies may limit your ability to use certain features of our website. It won't, however, limit your ability to wrestle alligators in person.
Cookie Reality:
Yes, we use cookies. No, they're not the delicious kind. We use them to make the site work better and to understand which pages people visit before closing their browser in disbelief. We promise we're not tracking you any more than every other website on the internet.
5 Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Our security practices include:
- Encryption: SSL/TLS encryption for data transmission
- Secure Storage: Encrypted databases with restricted access
- Access Controls: Limited employee access on a need-to-know basis
- Regular Updates: Security patches and software updates
- Third-Party Audits: Periodic security assessments
- Incident Response: Procedures for handling potential breaches
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
⚠️ SECURITY REALITY ⚠️
We secure your data better than our wrestlers secure victory against the gators. Which is to say, we try very hard, we use the best tools available, and we take it seriously. But like alligator wrestling, there's always some inherent risk. If you're concerned about your data security, use strong passwords and don't share your account credentials.
6 Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:
Your Rights Include:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (with some exceptions)
- Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: Object to processing of your personal data for certain purposes
- Restriction: Request limitation of processing in certain circumstances
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time

How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@lrawl.org. We will respond within 30 days. Please note that some requests may be subject to verification of your identity.
Important Limitations:
We cannot delete certain records required by law, such as liability waivers, incident reports, and transaction history. We also can't erase you from photos/videos of public events (unless legally required). Your participation in public alligator wrestling is, unfortunately, part of the historical record.
7 Children's Privacy
LRAWL does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age without parental consent. Our services are not directed to children under 13.
For Minors (Under 18):
- Parent or legal guardian must provide consent for participation
- Parent/guardian must review and agree to privacy practices
- Emergency contact must be a parent or guardian
- Additional safety measures and restrictions apply
If we discover we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.
⚠️ PARENTS, PLEASE READ ⚠️
If your child is interested in alligator wrestling, we strongly encourage you to have a serious conversation about risk assessment, common sense, and alternative hobbies. If you still decide to let them participate, we need your explicit consent and will need to collect information about your child for safety purposes. Also, maybe consider therapy.
8 International Users
LRAWL is based in South Carolina, United States. If you are accessing our services from outside the U.S., please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.
For European Users (GDPR):
- We comply with GDPR requirements for EU residents
- Legal basis for processing: consent, contractual necessity, legitimate interests
- You have enhanced rights under GDPR (see Section 6)
- Data transfers comply with EU adequacy requirements
- You may lodge complaints with your supervisory authority
For California Users (CCPA):
- We do not sell your personal information
- You have specific rights under California law
- We provide notice of information collection practices
- You may opt-out of certain data sharing
International Participation:
While we welcome international visitors (seriously, people travel for this?), please note that alligators are primarily a U.S. problem. If you're coming from abroad to wrestle our gators, we respect your dedication to questionable activities.
9 Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites, services, or resources. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those external sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third parties.
Third parties we may link to include:
- Payment processors (for secure transactions)
- Social media platforms
- Event ticketing services
- Merchandise vendors
- Travel and accommodation booking sites
- News articles about our "questionable" activities
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
10 Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
Retention Periods:
- Account Data: Until account deletion (plus 30 days backup period)
- Transaction Records: 7 years (tax and legal requirements)
- Liability Waivers: Indefinitely (legal protection)
- Medical/Incident Reports: 10 years minimum (insurance requirements)
- Marketing Data: Until you unsubscribe (plus 60 days)
- Website Analytics: 26 months (Google Analytics default)
After the retention period, we securely delete or anonymize your personal information.
Why So Long?
Legal requirements for liability protection in dangerous activities require us to keep records for extended periods. If someone sues us five years after a match, we need documentation. It's not paranoia—it's legal necessity in the alligator wrestling business.
11 Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Post the revised policy on our website
- Notify you via email for significant changes (if we have your email)
- Provide notice at events for material changes
Your continued use of our services after changes indicates acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. If you don't agree with changes, you should discontinue use of our services.
Typical Reasons for Updates:
New privacy laws (thanks, legislators), new services or features we offer, feedback from privacy advocates who question our entire existence, or our lawyers getting nervous about something new we're doing. We'll always notify you of material changes.
